The Helm Program
Every kid in Charleston lives ten minutes from the water; most have never steered on it. The Helm Program is Dave and Julia's answer: mentorship days where young people take the wheel with a licensed captain beside them, learn the harbor's rules and its history, and see a version of themselves at the helm. First-job pathways onto the captain wall follow for the ones who keep showing up.
Veterans on the water
Dockside partners with Lowcountry veterans organizations for days on the harbor: no agenda, no speeches, just the water doing what it does. Veterans with maritime experience get first look at captain and crew roles on the network page.
Donated days, first launches
Some rental days go back to the harbor. Dockside sets aside charter days each season for Helm Program youth cruises, and owners in the network can donate a day of their boat's calendar the same way. The party you threw last weekend helps keep a kid's first day on the water free.
Mentoring, the Dockside way
This is not a charity page with stock photos. It is the same boats, the same captains, and the same golden hour, shared. If you run a youth program, a school, or a veterans group in the Lowcountry, the wheelhouse door is open.
